Notes about tipping
Just a note on tipping the officiant. My husband is a pastor. If the couple is not a member of the church, there is always a designated amount that is to be paid. Members also pay. In our churches we've seen the range from $150 to $500 depending on our church location. The organist is also paid. Usually about $250, even for church members. The church has a charge for facility use. The church, groom/bride rooms and bathrooms have to be cleaned after the event. If the reception hall is used, there is a charge for the custodian.
Thanks for the great information!
I completely agree with this comment. I have been a pastor 20 years and officiating weddings can sure leave you painfully aware of people's priorities. A couple can get married without a band, flowers, photos, etc. but it's not going to happen without an officiant. I have lost track of how many $50,000 weddings I have officiated and received nothing for taking my Friday and Saturday (my days off) to perform a rehearsal and ceremony. If it is a young couple with a simple wedding, most pastors understand financial difficulties and just want to be a part of that couples day. However if you are planning an expensive wedding, think about how much you would would want to be compensated. Please advise your couples to think about this. Thanks!
